GALLIPOLIS — Bossard Memorial Library is hosting “Around the World,” a new segment in their summer reading program today at 2 p.m. for young readers, and again for teenagers on Thursday, also at 2 p.m.
“Around the World” is a program intended to help bring other cultures to Gallia County.
“We want to expose participants to other cultures, ones they might not experience otherwise,” said Lynn Pauley, Adult Program Associate at Bossard.
The program will include stories, crafts, snacks, and games from several cultures across the globe. Countries on display will be Canada, Mexico, Norway, China, South Africa, and Great Britain.
This years’ theme for the summer reading program is “Build a better world” and part of that is learning how to be a part of the world.
“We like to see people give back,” stated Pauley.
Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, although admission is entirely free. All food collected will go to a local food bank to help those in Gallia County.
Both events are open to anyone, but are geared towards certain age groups. Today’s event is geared towards children 12 years and younger, and Thursday’s event towards teens.
Other events coming soon to Bossard include Story Time with Ronald McDonald on July 31 at 10 a.m. for young readers. On Aug. 1, Erica Carlson will be present for Story Time Extravaganza with her hedgehog “Sedgie.” More classes will be offered starting in August including yoga, adult coloring, cursive writing, and sign language classes. There is a wait list for the sign language class, but Pauley still encourages those interested to sign up in case of drop outs or no shows to the class.
