RACINE, Ohio — A great start to the night, and it only got better.
The Southern volleyball team claimed a 3-games-to-zero victory over Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Miller, on Tuesday night in Meigs County.
The Lady Tornadoes (13-2, 9-1 TVC Hocking) claimed wire-to-wire victories in the first two games, winning by 25-12 and 25-11 counts respectively. Southern trailed 2-1 and 3-2 in the third game, but rallied back to take the finale by a 25-8 count, capping off the 3-0 win.
“Every game is important and every win counts,” first-year SHS head coach Kim Hupp said. “We’re getting the passes up, so that we can set it and attack the net, and that’s coming together.”
Kamryn Smith led the Lady Tornado service attack with 16 points and one ace, while Marissa Johnson posted 15 points and five aces in the win. Talon Drummer finished with 11 service points, Sierra Cleland added six, while Macie Michael contributed five points to the SHS cause. Next for the Purple and Gold was Amanda Cole with two points, followed by Marlee Maynard and Katie Barton with one point apiece.
At the net, Southern was led by Cole with eight kills, followed by Cleland with seven kills and three blocks. Faith Teaford posted six kills and three blocks for the hosts, while Michael and Johnson each marked two kills. Smith, Maynard and Drummer each had one kill in the win, with Smith also posting one block and Maynard finishing with a match-best 26 assists.
The Lady Tornadoes also topped MHS in straight games on September 6, in Perry County.
Southern will try for its fourth straight victory on Thursday, when the Lady Tornadoes visit Belpre, which they swept earlier this season.
