Meigs takes 5th at ZT Invite

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Meigs High School golf team was one of 13 clubs competing in Saturday’s Zane Trace Invitational tournament — which was held at the Jaycees Golf Course in Chillicothe.

The Marauders’ team total of 360 was good enough to finish fifth, as the majority of the schools in attendance were members of the Scioto Valley Conference, the Mid-State League or the Muskingum Valley League.

Sheridan won the team championship with a 326, which was one stroke better than fellow MVL rival New Lexington.

Next was Fairfield Union at 335, followed by host Zane Trace at 343 before the Marauders.

All four of the Marauder counting scores broke 100 for the 18-hole tournament — paced by Levi Chapman’s even 80.

The other three Meigs counting cards were Wyatt Nicholson with an 89, Chase Whitlatch with a 92 and Bryce Swatzel with a 99.

The other two Marauder members were Bobby Musser with a 110 and Dawson Justice with a 112.

There was a four-way tie for medalist honors — as each of the top four teams was represented by one player apiece.

Each shot 78 — and included Brian Chaney of Zane Trace, Costa Coconis of Sheridan, Brayden Metzger of New Lexington and Brent Gulling of Fairfield Union.

Rounding out the sixth thru 13th-place team scores were Southeastern (326), Teays Valley (371), Logan Elm (379), Westfall (386), Circleville (395), Huntington (401), Vinton County (422) and Belpre (451).

The only schools which did not field six golfers were Westfall and Circleville with five apiece — and Belpre with only the minimum four for a team score.

Paint Valley had a single player — Blake Winters with an 86.

The Marauders return to the Jaycees Golf Course, and open postseason play today (Tuesday, Sept. 27), in the Division II sectional tournament.
