CHESAPEAKE, Ohio — The streaks continues and the Blue Angels show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The Gallia Academy volleyball team earned its 15th consecutive victory on Thursday night, defeating Ohio Valley Conference guest Chesapeake by a 3-0 count in Lawrence County. The Blue Angels have also won nine consecutive league matches and 27 OVC games in a row, dating back to last season.
GAHS (15-0, 8-0 OVC) fought through six ties early in the opener, but ended the game with a 15-to-7 run to claim the 25-17 victory and move ahead 1-0 in the match.
The Blue Angels led wire-to-wire in the second game, taking the 25-9 victory to move up 2-0. After trailing 1-0 in the third game, GAHS scored the next six points and never trailed again, leading by as much as 16 en route to the 25-10 victory. The Blue Angels 3-0 sweep is their 13th straight-games victory of the season.
Ashton Webb led the Gallia Academy service attack with 12 points, while Ryleigh Caldwell chipped in with 11 points and one ace. Carly Shriver and Jenna Meadows both finished with nine points and one ace, Alex Barnes added four points and one ace, while Grace Martin and Brooke Pasquale each marked one service point in the win.
Martin led the guests at the net with 12 kills and two blocks, Caldwell added eight kills and one block, while Webb marked seven kills and one block. Barnes and Meadows both contributed six kills to the winning total, while Shriver finished with one kill, one block and a team-best 39 assists.
Gallia Academy’s defense was led by Webb and Meadows with 13 digs apiece, followed by Martin with 12.
The Blue Angels also defeated the Lady Panthers in straight games on August 25, at GAHS.
