THE PLAINS, Ohio — The Meigs girls basketball team fell on the road 56-52 Thursday evening to the Athens Lady Bulldogs Thursday evening in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division matchup.
The Lady Marauders (5-3, 1-3 TVC Ohio) trailed the Lady Bulldogs (2-7, 1-2) 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a closer affair between the two teams, the home team only slightly outscoring the visitors 10-9, but Athens went into the locker rooms with a 28-22 lead.
The Lady Marauders scored 14 more points in the third quarter, and actually outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-10 in the fourth.
However, they were unable to close the rest of the gap between the two teams.
In shots, the Lady Bulldogs led in both 3-pointers and field goals at 6-5 and 16-14, respectively.
The Lady Marauders, however, led in free throws at 9-6.
In scoring, the Lady Marauders were led by senior Mallory Hawley, who recorded six field goals and three free throws for a total of 15 points.
Behind her was sophomore Delana Wright, who notched four field goals and three free throws for 11 points.
Also scoring 11 points was junior Jennifer Parker, scoring two 3-pointers, two field goals and one free throw.
Rounding out the Meigs scoring were Rylee Lisle with seven points, Andrea Mahr with five points and Maggie Musser with three points.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs in scoring was Bailey Davis, who had two 3-pointers and five field goals for a total of 16 points.
The Lady Marauders will be back in action at noon Saturday when they travel to take on the Gallia Academy Blue Angels.
