Marauders roll past Vinton County, 14-0

ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio — That’s one way to take out your frustrations.

Just two nights after suffering its first loss of the season, the Meigs baseball team got back on track with a 14-0 mercy rule victory over Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division guest Vinton County, on Wednesday.

After scoring just one run in the bottom of the first inning, Meigs (14-1, 7-1) broke the game open with 13 runs on five hits and 11 free passes in the bottom of the second inning. The Marauders only allowed two hits in the game and cruised to the 14-0 win, in five innings.

Kaileb Sheets earned the pitching victory for Meigs, striking out four batters in two perfect innings. K.J. Tracy pitched two innings, allowing one hit and one walk, while Layne Acree struck out two and allowed one hit in one inning of work. Bailey Bartoe suffered the loss for VCHS (2-14, 2-6).

Christian Mattox led the Marauders at the plate with one double, one single three runs scored and two RBI, while Sheets had two singles, two runs scored and two RBI. Cody Bartrum had two singles, one run scored and one RBI, Tracy had one single, two runs scored and two RBI, while Luke Musser and Alec Bissell both singled once, scored once and drove in one run.

Acree had one run scored and two RBI for the Maroon and Gold, T.J. Williams added two runs scored and one RBI, while Zach Helton had one run scored and one RBI in the win.

Jeffery Harper doubled to lead the Vikings at the plate, while Noah Waddell had a single.

For the game, Meigs left eight runners on base, while Athens had four runners stranded.

Meigs also defeated the Vikings on April 1, by a 13-3 count, in McArthur.

The Marauders are scheduled to return to the diamond on Friday, when Nelsonville-York visits Rocksprings.
