Wahama competes at St. Marys Opener

ST. MARYS, W.Va. — A somewhat pleasant day in Pleasants County.

The Wahama boys finished fourth and the girls placed fifth Friday at the 2016 St. Marys Track and Field Opener held on the campus of St. Marys High School.

The White Falcons won two of the 18 events while scoring 81 points in the five-team boys division, while the Lady Falcons shared one individual title while scoring 30 points in the girls competition.

Starting with the boys, the WHS quartet of Brady Bumgarner, Nolan Pierce, Wesley Jones and Austin Juelfs captured first place in the both the 4x100m (46.38 seconds) and 4x200m (1:37.66) relays.

Jones was also second in the 100m dash (11.83) and third in the 200m dash (23.42), while Juelfs was the long jump runner-up (19 feet, 2 inches) and also finished fourth in the 100m dash with a mark of 11.54 seconds.

Pierce finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches, while the quartet of Matt Wood, Mason Hildreth, Isaiah Pauley and Travis Kearns was third in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:11.56.

Kearns was fourth in the 1600m run (5:10.81) and Hildreth was fourth in the 3200m event (11:06.80), while Wyatt Edwards was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 3.25 inches.

Edwards, Kearns, Jacob Lloyd and Christian Thomas also finished fourth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:06.27.

St. Marys won the boys championship with 145 points, while Doddridge County was just three points back (142) in the second spot. Tyler Consolidated (108) and Webster County (66) respectively finished in front of and behind Wahama in the final boys standings.

On the girls side of things, Lizzy Mullins claimed Wahama’s lone crown after tying for first place in the 100m dash with an equal time of 13.86 seconds.

Kaleigh Stewart was second in the 200m dash (28.85) and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 4.75 inches.

The quartet of Mullins, Stewart, Rebekah Roach and Molly Fisher also finished third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 56.15 seconds.

Doddridge County won the girls competition with 231 points, followed by St. Marys (117) and Tyler Consolidated (74) in the top three spots. Trinity Christian (42) and Webster County (28) surrounded the Lady Falcons in the final team tallies.
