CENTENARY, Ohio — A little lineup mix didn’t impact the Gallia Academy High School tennis team on Friday, as the Blue Devils defeated visiting Unioto 4-1 in a non-league tilt.
The Blue Devils are now 2-0, having opened the season with a 3-2 non-league win at Portsmouth Clay on Wednesday.
On Friday, even with senior Adriana Wilcoxon absent, the Blue Devils dominated the three singles matches — completing a sweep in fact.
Pierce Wilcoxon played first singles and Miles Cornwell second singles, as they blanked Unioto’s Sam Smith and Bane Adkins respectively — 6-0, 6-0.
At third singles was Gallia Academy’s Dakota Metzler, who swept Caitlyn McKell 6-1, 6-1.
The Blue Devils split the two doubles matches, as Nathaniel Thomas and Jenelle Stevens swept their second doubles duel 6-4, 6-1.
They defeated Unioto’s Morton and Caroline Thiel.
The lone Blue Devil loss was at first doubles, as Olivia Meadows and MiKayla Edelmann fell 4-6, 4-6 to the Shermans’ Tanner Cremeans and Brett Moore.
The Blue Devils returned to the road, and opened defense of their Southeastern Ohio Athletic League championship, on Monday at Athens.
The other SEOAL match on Monday featured Jackson at Logan.
