VINCENT, Ohio —Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, it was about how they finished Friday night.
While visiting Gallia Academy did make the Warren Warriors work for everything in their Southeastern Ohio Athletic League boys basketball tilt, the Blue Devils did run out of gas in the fourth quarter — and lost 63-53.
The game was Gallia Academy’s third in four nights, as the Blue Devils were coming off a 57-54 Ohio Valley Conference makeup win over Rock Hill just one night before.
The Blue Devils fell to 5-12 (0-3 SEOAL) with the loss, as the Warriors completed the season sweep.
The Warriors raised their record to 15-3, and a perfect 3-0 in the SEOAL.
Gallia Academy did lead 37-34 at halftime, thanks to outscoring the Warriors 17-14 in the first period — and playing them to a 10-10 tie in the second quarter.
But Warren won the second half 39-26, including a decisive 23-13 fourth quarter that broke the 40-40 tie after three.
Both teams shot 45-percent from the field, as Gallia Academy was 23-of-51, while Warren was 27-of-59.
The keys, however, to the Warriors’ win were a 35-22 rebounding advantage, while committing only 11 turnovers to the Blue Devils’ 18.
The Warriors made off with 16 steals as a result, including six by Seth Hall, as Gallia Academy only had six as a team.
Kyler Dennis — on five field goals and 4-of-7 free throws — led the Warriors with 15 points, including the team’s only three-point goal.
Luke Drayer and Chase Weihl, with six field goals and two made free throws apiece, added 14 for Warren.
Trace Congleton and Hall had six points apiece on three field goals, as Weihl and Drayer grabbed nine rebounds apiece.
Hall also had seven of the Warriors’ 17 assists, while Drayer dished out five.
Kole Carter paced the Blue Devils and all scorers with 17 points — on eight field goals and a free throw.
Wes Jarrell dropped in 14 for Gallia Academy on seven field goals, while Devin Henry had 10 points on three field goals and 4-of-6 foul shots.
Evan Wiseman with seven points and Miles Cornwell with five rounded out the Gallia Academy scoring, as both players made a three-point goal.
The Blue Devils defeated visiting Jackson 48-34 on Saturday night in another SEOAL game, and host Logan tonight (Tuesday) in yet another conference clash.
