SETH, W.Va. — The second time’s no charm.

The Hannan boys basketball looked to avenge a 5-point, December 28, loss to Sherman on Thursday evening, but the Tide had different plans, rolling to a 53-33 victory in Boone County.

Sherman (6-9) outscored the Wildcats (4-10) 13-to-6 in the opening stanza and pushed the advantage to 29-12 by halftime. The Tide’s lead grew to 42-20 by the end of the third period and the hosts cruised to the 53-33 victory.

HHS senior Isaiah Burgess led the guests with 19 points, followed by Malachi Cade with five. Matthew Qualls, Josh McCoy, Chase Nelson and Dalton Coleman each scored two points in the setback, while Ryan Gerlach finished with one marker. The Wildcats sank 7-of-11 free throw attempts, equaling 63.6 percent.

The Maroon and Gold were led by senior Blake Nelson and junior Caleb Duncan with 13 and 11 points respectively, while Jake Maynor scored eight. Bailey Kirk and Tyler Pettry both scored six points, Will Hensley added four, while Tyler Craig finished with three in the win. SHS made 3-of-6 free throw attempts, a 50 percent effort.

Sherman’s first victory over the Wildcats was by a 67-62 count at HHS.

Hannan — which has now lost three straight decisions — returns to action on Friday, when Rose Hill Christian visits Ashton. HHS suffered a 59-36 setback at RCHS on January 5.
