IRONTON, Ohio — The Blue Angels started off hot, but cooled down as the contest progressed.
The Rock Hill girls basketball team rebounded after trailing five points at halftime and overcame visiting Gallia Academy 52-44 in an Ohio Valley Conference match-up in Lawrence County.
The Blue Angels (0-3, 0-2 OVC) led 17-7 after one quarter of play. Gallia Academy’s offense slowed down in the second quarter but held on to a 27-22 halftime lead.
The Redwomen (3-1, 1-1) regrouped in the third quarter and outscored the visitors by 5-to-1. Rock Hill led 37-30 after three periods. The Blue Angels’ offense gained some steam in the fourth quarter, but the home team’s 15 points in the quarter kept Gallia Academy at bay.
Hunter Copley and Carly Shriver led the Gallia Academy offense with 12 points each. Adrienne Jenkins finished with eight points, while KoKo Higa had six points. Jordan Walker contributed three points, while Abbey Cremeans and Jalea Caldwell each had two points for the Blue Angels.
The Redwomen were led by Kaci Russell’s 18 points. Taylor Hill, Anna Darby and Sami Dillon each had 10 points for Rock Hill, while Abbi Kline and Kyleigh Noel posted two points apiece.
The Blue and White will host league rival Ironton on Thursday.
