HEMLOCK, Ohio — A total team effort.
All nine players in Green and Gold scored Monday night, as the Eastern girls basketball defeated Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Miller by a 59-33 count, in Perry County.
The Lady Eagles (2-1, 2-1 TVC Hocking) sank 5-of-6 first quarter free throw attempts, helping the guests claim a narrow 15-11 edge through eight minutes of play. Eastern exploded with a 20-to-5 second quarter run, pushing the advantage to 35-16 at halftime.
A 13-to-7 third quarter edge helped Eastern’s lead grow to 48-23 headed into the fourth period. The Lady Eagles outscored Miller (0-4, 0-3) 11-to-10 over the final eight minutes, capping off the 59-33 victory.
EHS junior Laura Pullins paced the Green and Gold with 14 points, followed by freshman Jess Parker with 12. Madison Williams connected on a trio of three-pointers en route to 11 points, while Kelsey Casto finished with six markers. Rebecca Pullins made one trifecta and posted five points, Madison Kuhn added four points, while Annalisa Boano contributed three points in the win. Rounding out the Lady Eagle scoring were Elizabeth Collins and Alyson Bailey with two points each.
Eastern was 9-of-15 from the free throw line in the game, equaling 60 percent.
Janae Dutiel led Miller with 12 points, followed by Olivia Houk with 10, Lacey Alexander with nine and Elania Hartburger with two. The Lady Falcons hit four trifectas in the setback, while shooting 3-of-8 (37.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
Eastern — which hosts 0-3 South Gallia on Thursday — will look to sweep Miller on January 14, when the Lady Falcons visit ‘The Nest’.
