2018 football statistics needed
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — All Ohio varsity football coaches in Gallia and Meigs counties are asked to submit regular season statistics from their respective teams to the Ohio Valley Publishing sports department for district and state considerations with the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association postseason awards.
Along with the 10-game stats, please include the heights, weights, positions played and grade of each nominee — as well as an order of recommendation for possible selections. Stats can include anything related to offense, defense or special teams for a nominee.

All statistics and nominations must be received before noon on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for consideration.
Rio’s Jones takes first in Red/White Classic
RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Rio Grande’s Keshawn Jones used a late burst down the stretch to hold off teammate Kameron Carpenter and capture first place in Thursday afternoon’s Red/White Cross Country Classic at the Rio Cross Country Course.
The race, a combined 5K event for men and women, including runners representing the RedStorm and Kentucky Christian University.
Jones, a junior from Mansfield, Ohio and Carpenter – a senior from Newark, Ohio – ran stride-for-stride with each other for a large portion of the race before the late pull-away by Jones.
Jones finished in 16:50, while Carpenter crossed in 16:59.
Also for Rio Grande, freshman Collin Doughty (Marietta, OH) finished third in 17:27; sophomore Mohamed Farah (Galloway, OH) placed fourth in a time of 17:44; junior River Spicer (West Milton, OH) was fifth after crossing in 17:53; and sophomore Isaiah Lester (Gallipolis, OH) was sixth with a time of 18:54.
Rio’s top female finisher was senior Lucy Williams (Athens, OH), who placed eight with a time of 18:54.
Freshman Abilena Sullivan (Chillicothe, OH) was 10th overall in a time of 20:55, while junior Kelsey Miller (Georgetown, OH) was 11th after recording a time of 22:19.
Rio Grande’s men’s and women’s teams return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the River States Conference Championship in Owensboro, Ky.
Gallia Academy basketball reserve seats
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — Reserve seats for the 2018-19 Gallia Academy High School basketball season will go on sale starting Tuesday, Nov. 13, for the Gallia Academy Athletic Super Boosters.
Parents of varsity and junior varsity basketball players and varsity cheerleaders will be able to purchase reserve seats on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Reserve seats for the general public will be available on Thursday, Nov. 15.
The price is $75 per ticket.
Tickets may be purchased in the Athletic Director’s office at Gallia Academy High School between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Gallia Academy Athletic Super Boosters will be limited to six tickets purchased on the first day of sales.
After the first day, there will be no limit on the number of tickets which may be purchased.
