FLORENCE, Ind. — The University of Rio Grande posted an eighth place finish at the River States Conference Women’s Golf Fall Preview, which wrapped up a two-day run on Tuesday at Belterra Golf Course.
The RedStorm finished with a team total of 241-over par 809.
Indiana University East held off Asbury University for the team championship, posting a team total of 101-over par 669 – four shots better than the Eagles. Midway University finished third at 117-over par 685.
Individually, IU East’s Breanna Nowak took top honors with a two-shot win over Point Park University’s Joey Walz.
Nowak, who entered Tuesday’s final round just one over par, finished with a 15-over total of 157. Walz had a 5-over par 76 on Tuesday, but closed with a total of 159.
Rio’s top score came from freshman Abby Eichmiller (Vincent, OH), who finished in a tie for 26th place after being tied for 15th following Monday’s opening round. She finished with a second round score of 100 for a 36-hole total of 190.
Freshman Elizabeth Leach (Waterford, OH) had the RedStorm’s best round on Tuesday with a 94 and finished 32nd in the 47-player field with a total of 200.
Others representing the RedStorm included sophomore Kimberly Edelmann (Gallipolis, OH), who placed 35th with a two-day total of 209; freshman Hunter Rockhold (Clinton, OH), who tied for 36th at 210; and freshman Erin Fridley (Delaware, OH), who was 41st with a total of 218.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Shawnee State University Fall Invitational in Friendship, Ohio.
