ATHENS, Ohio — Five Rebels, four Tornadoes and two Eagles earned spots on the Associated Press 2015 Division VII All-Southeast District team, as selected by a media panel from the district.
South Gallia, which finished 6-5 after the Rebels’ first playoff appearance since 2011, landed three first team selections on the offensive side of the ball, with two players earning special mention spots.
Rebel senior Landon Hutchinson, who was an all-purpose first teamer last year and a special mention selection in 2013, was named first team quarterback this season. In the regular season Landon completed 59-of-132 passes for 844 yards and 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,071 yards and 14 scores on 141 carries.
Kane Hutchinson, who was a special mention selection as a junior in 2014, was named first team wide receiver after hauling in 35 passes for 507 yards and eight touchdowns in the regular season. SGHS senior Isaiah Geiger earned his first-ever district honor as a running back, after rushing for 1,260 yards and 11 touchdowns in the regular season.
SGHS senior Ty Carpenter and junior Johnny Sheets were both named special mention for the Red and Gold. Carpenter had 59 tackles, 10 for a loss, with three sacks, while Sheets had 674 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns, to go with 28 tackles 10 for a loss and four sacks.
Southern, which finished 4-6, landed one player of the first team offense, one player on the first team defense and two special mention selections.
SHS senior Joe Beegle, who had 54 tackles, seven for a loss and two sacks on defense, earned his first-ever district honor as a first team offensive lineman. Southern senior Tommy Ramthun, who had eight offensive scores this fall, earned a first team defensive back spot after intercepting two passes and recording 52 tackles, three for a loss and one sack this fall.
Earning special mention spots for the Tornadoes were junior Blake Johnson and sophomore Dylan Smith. Johnson had 1,601 yards and 19 scores in his second year as Southern’s starting quarterback, while Smith had 234 yards and two scores on the ground, 316 yards and two scores receiving, with one touchdown pass. All four Tornadoes are making their first appearance on the all-district team.
Eastern, which finished 2-8, earned one first team offensive selection and one special mention spot. EHS senior Ross Keller, who anchored both lines for EHS this fall, was named first team offensive lineman for the second straight season. Keller, who was a special mention in his sophomore season, had 50 tackles, seven for a loss and two sacks on the defensive side of the ball this season.
Cameron Richmond earned a special mention for the Eagles, after grabbing 56 passes for 768 yards and six scores, and rushing for 196 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while recording 42 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
Trimble senior running back Justice Jenkins was named Offensive Player of the Year in Division VII after leading the Tomcats to their third straight Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division title. Tyler Dement, a senior linebacker from Symmes Valley was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Greg Adams of Belpre and Sean Bartley of Miller shared Coach of the Year honors.
