Rio volleyball tames Tigers

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Madison Wilson led the University of Rio Grande in kills for the second time in as many nights and the RedStorm rebounded from a tough Tuesday loss with a 3-0 win over Salem (W.Va.) International University, Wednesday night, in non-conference volleyball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.

Rio earned its 16th win in 21 outings with a 25-22, 25-9, 25-23 decision over the Tigers.

SIU, a member of the NCAA Division II Great Midwest Athletic Conference, slipped to 5-13 overall.

Wilson, a sophomore from Groveport, Ohio, finished with 10 kills for the RedStorm, less than 24 hours after recording a dozen kills in a 3-1 loss to Indiana-East.

Rio Grande finished with a .280 attack percentage for the match, including a sizzling .419 mark (15 kills, 2 errors, 31 attacks) in the second set rout.

Junior Kayla Briley (Marion, OH) finished with 33 assists, 10 digs and three blocks, while junior Chandler Brown (Stockdale, OH) had a team-high 22 digs. Sophomore Kylan Strausbaugh (Kingston, OH) and freshman Trista Lackey (Jacksonville, OH) also had 10 digs each in the winning effort.

The RedStorm returns to action next Tuesday when rival Shawnee State University visits for a 7 p.m. first serve.
