The South Gallia volleyball team dropped its third match of the week Thursday night, as Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Federal Hocking claimed a straight victory, at McInturf Gymnasium.
The Lady Lancers claimed a 25-15 victory in the opening game, and followed it up with a 25-10 victory in the second game. South Gallia (7-9, 3-8 TVC Hocking) put forth its best effort of the night in the third game, but Federal Hocking held on for a 25-19 victory and the 3-0 match sweep.
SGHS senior Mariah Hineman led the Lady Rebels with seven service points including one ace, followed by fellow senior Courtney Haner with four points. Jayla Wolford, Erin Evans and Kirstin Burnette each finished with one point in the setback.
At the net, the Red and Gold were led by Haner and Wolford with four kills and one block apiece. Hineman posted three kills, while senior Caitlyn Vanscoy had two kills and three blocks in the loss. The Lady Rebel defense was led by freshman Taylor Burnette with 11 digs, followed by Hineman with seven and Vanscoy with five. Taylor Burnette also posted a team-high four assists, followed by Evans with three.
Federal Hocking also defeated South Gallia in straight games on September 10, in Mercerville.
The Lady Rebels will look to get back on track Monday when they travel to Eastern for a TVC Hocking tilt. SGHS suffered a 3-1 setback to the Lady Eagles on September 14, in Gallia County.
