BIDWELL, Ohio — If it weren’t for bad luck, they might not have any luck at all.
The River Valley volleyball team dropped its fourth consecutive match in heartbreaking fashion Tuesday night following an 18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 26-24 setback to visiting Wellston in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division matchup in Gallia County.
The host Lady Raiders (3-10, 1-5 TVC Ohio) stormed out to an early 2-0 match advantage, but the Lady Rockets answered with a narrow Game 3 win to keep the match alive, then rode that momentum into Game 4 and forced a pivotal fifth game.
In the race to 15, neither team could pull away for the minimal two-point decision. RVHS last led at 24-23, but the guests reeled off three consecutive points to wrap up the 3-2 match decision.
Jessi Steele led the River Valley service attack with 16 points, followed by Alex Truance with 14 points and Ashley Gilmore with seven points. Angel Toler was next with six points, while Courtney Smith and Jacey Walter each contributed five points. Brianna McGuire also had two points for the hosts.
Walter and Truance led the net attack with 11 kills apiece, followed by Smith and Steele with four kills each. Smith also had team-highs of two blocks, 17 assists and six digs.
