CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – On the heels of a disappointing loss just four days earlier, the University of Rio Grande rebounded with a pair of non-conference volleyball victories on Saturday.
The RedStorm upped their overall record to 7-3 by virtue of 3-0 win over Glenville (WV) State College and a 3-1 victory over the host of the triangular, Ohio Christian University, at the Maxwell Center.
Head coach Billina Donaldson’s team cruised past the Pioneers in the opener, winning 25-9, 25-8, 25-13.
The RedStorm had just nine hitting errors in the contest, while GSC had two more errors (15) than it had kills (13).
Senior Alex Phillips (Orient, OH) led a balanced attack with nine kills, while junior Kayla Briley (Marion, OH) had 27 assists and four service aces.
Junior Chandler Brown (Stockdale, OH) had a match-best 15 digs, while freshman Brooke Bostelman (Kenton, OH) and sophomore Kylan Strausbaugh (Kingston, OH) finished with 12 and 10, respectively.
Junior Autumn Snider (Marion, OH) had seven blocks in the winning effort.
Glenville State, which lost to Ohio Christian in the first match of the day, dropped to 1-8 following the losses.
Madison Smith and Cassidy Clark had four kills each to lead the Pioneers against Rio, while Allison Parski had 15 digs and Madison Gargus had 11 kills.
In the second match against the host Trailblazers, Rio earned a 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 victory.
Sophomore Madison Wilson (Groveport, OH) had a match-best 15 kills, while Phillips and Snider were credited with 10 kills each. Snider also five blocks.
Briley finished with 42 assists, 21 digs and three blocks, while Brown had 24 digs and freshman Taylor Overly (Chillicothe, OH) added 12 digs. Bostelman finished with 11 digs and three aces.
Megan Morrison had 14 kills and 14 digs to lead OCU, while Olivia Wireman and Virginia Keppler had 19 and 17 assists, respectively.
Olivia Davis had 19 digs and six blocks in the loss for the Trailblazers (4-6).
Rio Grande returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Midway University to resume Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
