OAK HILL, Ohio — The Lady Rebels got closer, but still came up short on Saturday — not once but twice.
That’s because the South Gallia High School volleyball squad got swept in a non-league triangular match, falling to Fairland 25-19 and 26-24 before losing to host Oak Hill 23-25, 25-21 and 25-21.
The loss leaves the Lady Rebels with an overall record of 1-10.
Against Fairland, several Rebels registered on the stat sheet, as Rachal Colburn and Christine Griffith had three kills apiece, while Erin Evans and Aayilah Howell each had two kills.
Olivia Hornsby had three assists, while Kiersten Howell served up a pair of aces.
Colburn also had a block at the net.
The Rebels nearly forced a third game against the Dragons, tying the second one at 24-24, before Fairland finished it off with the final two points.
Against Oak Hill, Colburn collected eight kills, while Griffith garnered three along with one block.
Hornsby again amassed three assists, while Amaya Howell had a pair of aces.
In the third set, South Gallia trailed 10-3 and 15-9, but did rally to within 19-18.
The Rebels returned to the road, and returned to Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division action, on Monday at Miller.
South Gallia returns home, and returns to conference play, against Wahama on Tuesday.
