GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Jodi Dejohn scored a pair of goals to lead Georgetown College past the University of Rio Grande, 3-1, Wednesday night, in non-conference women’s soccer action at a rain-soaked Toyota Stadium.
The host Tigers, who received votes in the latest NAIA coaches’ Top 25 poll, improved to 4-2 with the victory.
Rio Grande slipped to 1-4 with its third straight loss.
Dejohn got the scoring underway with an unassisted goal at the 19:13 mark of the opening half, while Bethany Massie added another unassisted marker just over two minutes to give Georgetown a 2-0 lead.
Rio Grande sliced the deficit in half with just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening stanza when junior Kelsey Lee (West Chester, OH) headed a shot into the net off a corner kick by junior Olivia Slone (Huntington, WV) and that’s how things stayed throughout much of the remainder of the night.
Dejohn seal the win for the Tigers with another unassisted goal with just 1:44 left to play.
Georgetown finished with an 18-8 edge in shots overall and a 10-7 edge in shots on frame. Rio Grande was limited to just two shots in the second half.
Megan Martin recorded six saves in goal for the Tigers.
Junior Andrea Vera (Quito, Ecuador) had seven stops in a losing cause for the RedStorm.
Rio Grande returns to action next Wednesday when it heads to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Marian University.
