MERCERVILLE, Ohio — The South Gallia volleyball team put up a courageous fight, but visiting Waterford simply had too much firepower on Tuesday night during a 25-14, 25-11, 25-7 victory in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division match in Gallia County.
The host Lady Rebels (0-4, 0-2 TVC Hocking) claimed early leads in each of the first two games, but the Lady Cats ultimately battled back both times before pulling away late. WHS then jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the finale before wrapping up the straight-game decision.
SGHS held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 6-3 in the opening game, but Waterford rallied to knot things up at seven before cruising to an 11-point win in Game 1.
The hosts led 2-1 in Game 2 and found themselves tied at four before Waterford reeled off nine straight points for a 13-4 edge. The Green and White eventually went on to win the middle game by 14 points.
Erin Evans led South Gallia with five service points, followed by Rachal Colburn and Olivia Hornsby with two points apiece. Christine Griffith and Kara McCormick also had a point each in the setback.
Colburn led the Lady Rebel net attack with four kills, followed by Evans and Aaliyah Howell with two kills apiece. Griffith added a team-best seven blocks, while McCormick had four blocks and Evans chipped in two blocks.
