NELSONVILLE, Ohio — The River Valley boys cross country team came away with top honors Tuesday night at the 2015 Nelsonville-York Invitational held in Athens County.
The Raiders posted a winning score of 52 points, which was eight points better than the rest of the 12-team boys field. Fairfield Christian Academy was the runner-up with 60 points, while Athens (83), Meigs (91) and Berne Union (134) rounded out the top five spots. Southern was also seventh with 197 points.
Jacob Thompson of FCA defeated 116 other runners in the boys race with a winning mark of 16:30.1. Cray Sistrunk of Belpre was second with a mark of 16:59.5.
Jacob Kemper paced RVHS with a third place effort of 17:22.5, followed by Nathaniel Abbott (17:48.2) and Chance Gillman (17:59.5) with respective finishes of sixth and ninth. Garrett Young also placed 10th overall with a mark of 18:05.4.
Caleb McKnight (19:11.5) rounded out the winning tally by placing 29th, while George Rickett (19:12.1) and Ben Moody (19:52.3) also finished 30th and 44th overall for the Raiders.
Jacob Swindell (17:54.8) and James Parsons (17:59.5) paced the Marauders with respective top-10 efforts of seventh and eighth, followed by Dillon Mahr (18:30.1) in 16th place and Nate Hoover (19:18.0) in 31st.
Cole Betzing (19:22.7) rounded out the MHS scoring by placing 34th, while Brad Logan (20:43.7) and Tyler Fields (20:46.4) respectively finished 63rd and 64th for the Maroon and Gold.
Larry Dunn paced the Tornadoes by finishing 14th with a time of 18:21.1, followed by Conner Wolfe (18:35.5) and Tylar Blevins (19:46.1) with respective finishes of 17th and 40th. Dimitrius Lamm (20:57.1) and Lucas Hunter (21:40.1) rounded out the SHS tally with placements of 66th and 81st.
Athens came away with top honors on the girls side after posting a winning score of 36. FCA was the runner-up out of 10 teams with 65 points, while Alexander (107), Meigs (131) and River Valley (141) rounded out the top five scores.
Kyleigh Edwards of FCA defeated 85 other competitors to win the girls race with a time of 18:35.2. Emily Cass of Athens was the overall runner-up with a mark of 19:31.7.
Gracie Hoffman led the Lady Marauders with an 11th place effort of 21:46.4, followed by Lara Perrin (22:45.3) and Caitlyn Rest (24:00.7) with respective finishes of 20th and 31st. Taylor Swartz was also 32nd overall with a mark of 24:05.3.
Sadie Fox (26:33.9) rounded out the MHS tally by placing 61st, while Ariann Sizemore (26:34.5) and Carmen Doherty (29:42.6) also finished 62nd and 78th for the Maroon and Gold.
Kenzie Baker paced the Lady Raiders by finishing eighth with a time of 21:17.3, followed by Julia Nutter (24:32.1) and Ieva Katkauskatie (24:32.9) with placements of 35th and 36th. Leanne Hively also finished 40th overall with a mark of 24:52.4.
Bailey Hollingsworth (24:54.7) rounded out the RVHS scoring by placing 42nd, while Josie Jones (25:53.5) and Hannah Nutter (26:40.0) also finished 53rd and 63rd for the Silver and Black.
Southern did not record a team score in the girls event due to having only two runners. Mallory Johnson led SHS with a 59th place time of 26:20.4, followed by Kathryn Matson in 73rd with a mark of 28:47.4.
