JACKSON, Ohio — Too few goals, and too many allowed.
Unfortunately for the young Gallia Academy High School soccer squad, it still remains winless two weeks into the season — as the Blue Devils lost at now non-league Jackson 5-1 on Tuesday inside the Ironmen’s Alumni Stadium.
The loss left the Blue Devils at 0-3-1, as Gallia Academy has been outscored in its three defeats by a decisive 16-2.
The Blue and White’s only non-loss is a 2-2 tie against Fairland to open the season.
Conversely, the red-hot Ironmen won their third consecutive tilt to improve to 3-2, and have outscored their opposition as part of that streak 14-3.
On Tuesday, Jackson seized a 1-0 halftime advantage, then broke away from a 1-1 tie in the second half with its final four goals being unanswered.
For the Ironmen, Michael Benson had a hat trick, while Isaac Kuhn collected one goal and a pair of assists.
Jackson outshot Gallia Academy 13-3, and blanked the Blue Devils in corner kicks 9-0.
Trey Moore made two saves in net for the Ironmen, as Justin Day delivered Gallia Academy’s only goal early in the second half.
Benson scored the only first-half tally, posting a goal off a Reason Padgett assist at the 21-minute mark.
Benson then scored off a Kuhn assist, before his unassisted goal at the halfway point of the second made it 3-1.
With 11 minutes remaining, Kuhn scored off a Wyatt Hemsley cross, as Kuhn’s other assist came on an Austin Van Allen marker with only 7:50 to play.
The Blue Devils return home, and return to Ohio Valley Conference action, on Thursday against South Point.
