HUNTINGTON, W. Va. —They weren’t quite the kings, or the queens, of the Mountaintop —but they were close.
That’s because the Gallia Academy High School boys and girls cross country teams took part in the annual Huntington Mountaintop Invitational on Saturday — as each club placed second in the limited team standings.
On the boys side, though, GAHS senior twin brothers Caleb Greenlee and Kyle Greenlee captured the top two individual spots —as Caleb was the race winner with Kyle claiming race runner-up.
There were only three teams which posted scores for the boys — host Huntington with 26, Gallia Academy with 42 and Spring Valley (W. Va.) with 72.
For the girls, just Gallia Academy at 40 and Huntington at 34 had team scores.
Caleb Greenlee completed the hill-filled 5K course in 18 minutes and 23 seconds, while Kyle Greenlee crossed the finish line just four seconds after his brother.
The other Blue Devil counting times were from Ezra Blain (12th), Ethan Rider (13th), Kobe Cochrane (14th), Tristan Crisenbery (15th) and Grant Smith (16th).
Their official times were not available.
The Blue Angels’ top two placers were freshman Sara Watts and sophomore Brook Johnson, as Watts was third overall in 22:30 — while Johnson crossed the line just 40 seconds later (23:10).
The Blue Angels’ other scorers were Abby Johnson in ninth, Abby Cremeans in 12th, Eliza Davies in 19th, Maddie Stewart in 22nd and Cassidy Starnes in 23rd.
There were 41 total runners in the girls high school race, which was won by Huntington St. Joseph’s McKenzie Moran in 21:20.
