POMEROY, Ohio — It’s either a one-horse race or a collective battle for third — and the three-time defending champion Marauders are stuck right in the middle.

The Vinton County golf team continues to pull away in the overall league standing after posting its fourth victory in five Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division matches Tuesday night during a 10-shot victory over the field at Meigs County Golf Course in Meigs County.

The Vikings won their fourth straight league match of the fall by posting a winning tally of 176, which was 10 strokes better than host Meigs — who fired a team tally of 186 while finishing second overall.

Both VCHS and the Marauders — co-champions during last year’s TVC Ohio golf season — are the only two programs with winning records on the year. The Vikings hold a commanding 29-1 overall mark in five matches, while MHS is now 26-4 with two matches remaining.

River Valley was third on Tuesday night with a 191, while Athens (200), Wellston (206), Alexander (211) and Nelsonville-York (215) rounded out the bottom four finishes.

The Raiders are currently third in the season standings with a 15-15 mark, while the Golden Rockets sit fourth with a 11-19 overall record. The Bulldogs and Spartans are tied for fifth with identical marks of 9-21, while the Buckeys are last with a 6-24 record.

RVHS senior Logan Sheets won medalist honors after firing a 2-over par round of 36. Austin Ward of VCHS was the overall runner-up with a 41.

Alec Boothe followed Ward for VCHS with a 43, while Noah Waddell and Shawn McCarty rounded out the winning tally with respective efforts of 45 and 47. Cameron Harmon and Tyler Barnette also added respective rounds of 49 and 50.

Evan George paced the hosts with a 43, followed by Levi Chapman with a 44 and Bryce Swatzel with a 49. Chase Whitlatch ended the Marauders’ tally with a 50, while Wyatt Nicholson and Jaxon Meadows added respective rounds of 51 and 65.

Cliff Chapman followed Sheets for RVHS with a 49, while Grant Gilmore and Chance Gillman rounded out the team tally with respective scores of 52 and 54. Marina Conizares also shot a 64 for the Raiders.

Scores for Athens included Patrick Greer (47), Drew Zorn (45), Owen Campitelli (55), Greg List (55), Anthony Duluca (72) and Preston Hayes (53).

Scores for Wellston included Blake Royster (48), Josh Lung (56), Seth Coulter (55), Ken Lemaster (57), Justin Rafferty (55) and Michael Channell (56).
