BIDWELL, Ohio — These twos weren’t so terrible … at least if you are a Raider fan.
The River Valley football program improved to 2-0 this fall while picking up its second-ever victory over county rival Gallia Academy on Saturday night following a 27-13 decision in a Week 2 matchup in the Ohio Valley Bank Community Bowl at Raider Field.
The Raiders never trailed in the contest and led 20-0 headed into the fourth quarter, but the visiting Blue Devils (0-2) reeled off a pair of scoring drives over a two-minute span to close to within 20-13 with 9:17 remaining in regulation.
GAHS, however, never came closer the rest of the way as the Silver and Black forced a turnover on the Devils’ next possession. RVHS followed with a six-play, 24-yard scoring drive that sealed the deal on the two-possession outcome with 53 seconds remaining.
GAHS still owns a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Raiders, but this was the first matchup between any Gallia County programs in regular season football since the 2001 campaign. River Valley’s only other victory over the Blue Devils came in a 21-0 decision back in 1996 — roughly two decades ago.
Complete results from the Week 2 gridiron matchup between the Raiders and Gallia Academy will be available in the Tuesday sports edition of the Gallipolis Daily Tribune.
