Mother Nature is still unbeaten.
A steady down pour of rain ultimately ended Point Pleasant’s Class AA Region 4, Section 1 tournament game at top-seeded Winfield a little early on Friday night as the Lady Knights were four outs away from a come-from-behind victory.
The second-seeded Lady Knights trailed 1-0 after an inning of play and were tied at one through five complete, but the guests rallied for two runs in the sixth — leading to the current 3-1 score of an incomplete game.
PPHS had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh when the skies opened up, forcing a postponement of the winner’s bracket final until 10 a.m. Saturday morning — again at Winfield High School.
Also regarding Mason County softball, second-seeded Wahama travels to top-seeded Ravenswood at 1 p.m. Saturday in the loser’s bracket final of the Class A Region 4, Section 1 tournament. The winner will travel to fourth-seeded Williamstown for the championship game at 5 p.m. Monday.
Additional rain is in the forecast for Friday night and most of Saturday morning, so the schedules are subject to change.
If played, complete results of the Point Pleasant-Winfield and Wahama-Ravenswood softball contests will be available in the Tuesday sports edition of the Point Pleasant Register, Gallipolis Daily Tribune and The Daily Sentinel.
