WATERFORD, Ohio — Unfortunately for the Eastern Eagles, they became the Waterford Wildcats’ latest chalk-off towards a perfect league campaign.
That’s because the host Wildcats, already the outright Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division baseball champion, pinned a 10-2 loss on visiting Eastern on Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats scored at least one run in each of the first four innings on Friday, including two apiece in the first and third frames — followed by a five-run eruption in the fourth.
Waterford led 3-0 with a single tally in the second, then answered Eastern’s two markers in the top of the third with the final seven runs towards the 10-2 triumph.
The Wildcats are now 19-4, and remain undefeated in the TVC-Hocking at 15-0 — as Waterford will attempt to complete the undefeated conference season on Monday against visiting Southern.
Eastern is now 13-5, and concludes divisional play at 12-4.
The Wildcats outhit Eastern 10-7, as both clubs committed two errors apiece.
For Waterford, Clay Hayes pitched a complete game for the win, striking out seven while walking none.
Kaleb Hill and Ethen Richmond split the mound duties for the Eagles, as Hill started and suffered the pitching loss —going three and one-thirds while walking one and striking out four.
Richmond registered two and two-thirds innings in relief, as he walked a pair with one strikeout.
Hill and Austin Coleman crossed for Eastern’s only runs, as Coleman paced the Eagles at the plate —going 3-of-4 with a double.
Hill and John Little both doubled, as Hill and Josh Brewer both had an RBI.
Both Brewer and Nate Durst both singled.
Isaac Huffman, Braden Bellville and Bryce Hilverding had two hits apiece for Waterford, as Bellville doubled twice and scored three runs.
Hilverding and Hayes both doubled, as Riley Burns tripled and added two runs batted in.
Brock Hayes had a two-run single, as Tyler McCutcheon chipped in a basehit as well.
The Eagles return home on Tuesday, when they welcome county rival Meigs for a non-league duel.
