COAL GROVE, Ohio — A dozen and counting.
The Gallia Academy volleyball team posted its fourth consecutive straight-game victory Thursday night during a 25-10, 25-18, 25-9 victory over host Coal Grove in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup in Lawrence County.
The visiting Blue Angels (4-0, 4-0 OVC) had little trouble with the Lady Hornets, although CGHS did storm out to an early 7-3 advantage in Game 1. Allison McGhee followed with nine straight service points for a 13-7 lead, and the hosts were never closer than five points the rest of the way.
The Blue Angels jumped out to a 9-0 lead in Game 2 behind the serving of Carly Shriver, and the guests led by at least seven points the rest of the way to secure a 2-0 match lead.
GAHS trailed 1-0 in the final game, but quickly established early leads of 3-0 and 14-7. The Blue Angels reeled off 11 of the next 13 points to wrap up the straight-game triumph.
Shriver led the guests with 14 service points, followed by Allison McGhee with 13 points and Ashton Webb with 11 points. Hannah McCormick was next with six points, while Grace Martin and Brooke Pasquale respectively chipped in five and four points. Jenna Meadows also had one service point for the victors.
Martin led the GAHS net attack with eight kills, followed by Meadows with six kills. Webb and Jordan Walker each contributed five kills, while Ryleigh Caldwell added three kills. Hannah Johnson had two kills and joined Walker with two blocks apiece.
Kaylee Beals paced the Lady Hornets with four service points, followed by Emily Compliment and Kasey Murphy with three points apiece.
Gallia Academy returns to action Saturday when it hosts River Valley in a non-conference matchup of Gallia County programs at 2:15 p.m.
