ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio — Offense in abundance.
The Meigs softball team belted out 13 hits, including eight extra-base hits, on Wednesday night at Dreams Field, as the host Lady Marauders rolled to a 13-3 mercy rule victory over Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division guest Athens.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-6, 1-1 TVC Ohio) fired the opening salvo, as Brooklyn Sikorski doubled and then scored on an error in the top of the first inning.
Meigs (5-1, 2-0) pulled into the lead in the bottom of the first, as Taylor Swartz tripled home Devyn Oliver, then Alliyah Pullins and Danielle Morris scored on separate AHS errors.
The Maroon and Gold added another run in the second inning, as Bre Colburn tripled and then scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third, as Somnia Kessa was singled home by Kat Kroutel.
Meigs combined two hits, three errors and a walk to score five runs in the bottom of the third inning, extending the Lady Marauder lead to 9-2.
Athens scored once in the top of the fifth inning, as Lilly Mills singled in Kaylee Stewart.
Back-to-back doubles by Oliver and Swartz gave Meigs its first run of the fifth inning. Swartz then scored on a single by Pullins, who was brought home on a Peyton Rowe triple. Rowe was singled home by Morgan Lodwick, giving Meigs the 13-3 mercy rule victory, with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
Maddison Woodyard was the winning pitcher of record, tossing three innings, in which she allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks. Pullins pitched the final two frames for Meigs, allowing one unearned run on three hits, while striking out two.
Kroutel suffered the loss for Athens, allowing 13 runs, six earned, on 13 hits and two walks. In a complete game effort, Kroutel struck out seven batters.
Swartz led the MHS offense with a 4-for-4 day, including a triple, two doubles and three runs scored. Morris was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Oliver and Rowe both went 2-for-4, with Oliver doubling twice and scoring three times, and Rowe recording one triple, one run scored and one RBI.
Colburn tripled once and scored twice, Pullins singled once, scored twice and drove in one run, Lodwick had one single, one run scored and one RBI, while Breanna Zirkle and Hannah Tackett both scored once.
Kroutel led the guest by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sikorski doubled once and scored once for AHS, Mills added a single and an RBI, while Kessa had one hit and one run scored. Stewart scored once in the setback, while Drue Thomas contributed a single to the AHS cause.
Athens finished with six errors and six runners left on base, while Meigs committed two errors and left five runners on base.
These teams are scheduled to meet again on April 21, in Athens County.
Meigs will return to action on Friday, when Nelsonville-York visits Rocksprings.
