HARTFORD, W.Va. — At the plate and in the field, it was just a dominate night for the Lady Falcons.
The Wahama softball team claimed a 15-0 mercy rule victory in just three innings over Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest South Gallia, on Tuesday evening in Mason County.
Wahama (7-4, 4-0 TVC Hocking) — which didn’t allow a single hit to the Lady Rebels (0-2, 0-2) — scored 13 times in the first inning, with 11 of the runs coming before the first out.
WHS added two more runs in the bottom of the second to extend the 15-0, which was the final after SGHS failed to score in the top of the third.
WHS senior Taylor McGrew was the winning pitcher of record, striking out six batters and walking one in 2.0 innings of work. Hannah Billups pitched the final frame for the Red and White, and she struck out two batters, walked one and hit one with a pitch.
Madison Lucas suffered the loss in the circle for SGHS, allowing 13 earned runs on eight hits and nine walks in the one inning of work. Mackenzie Martin tossed the final frame for the guests and she allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks.
The WHS offense was led by Billups and Ashtyn Russell, both of whom went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, with Russell driving in two runs and Billups recording one RBI. McGrew doubled once, scored once and drove in three runs for WHS, while Cynthia Hendrick added a double, one run scored and one RBI.
Maddy VanMatre was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and one RBI for the victors, Amara Helton was 1-for-1 with one run scored and two RBIs, while Hannah Rose scored twice. Grace Haddox contributed one run scored and one RBI to the WHS cause, Logan Eades and Autumn Baker both chipped in with an RBI, while Emily VanMatre scored once.
Martin and Destiny Johnson both walked once for SGHS, while Jessica Luther was hit by a pitch.
Neither team committed an error in the tilt, with WHS leaving five runners on base and SGHS stranding three.
These teams are scheduled to meet again on April 21, in Mercerville.
Both teams are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, with SGHS hosting Sciotoville East in a non-conference clash and Wahama visiting Eastern in a battle of unbeatens within the TVC Hocking.
