WEST UNION, W.Va. — A solid start to the season.
The Wahama track and field team collectively came away with 18 top-six finishes at the 2017 Doddridge County Season Opener Meet held Tuesday at Cline Stansberry Stadium on the campus of Doddridge County High School.
The White Falcons finished third out of seven boys teams with 84 points, while the Lady Falcons placed sixth out of seven schools with 16 points. DCHS won both the boys and girls titles with respective tallies of 234 and 194 points, while North Marion took second in both meets with respective team efforts of 187 points each.
The White Falcons came away with 13 top-six finishes, which included nine top-three finishes and the only individual championship between both squads.
Brady Bumgarner won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.91 seconds and was also the 100m runner-up with a mark of 12.24 seconds.
Travis Kearns earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 800m (2:13.99) and 1600m (5:08.28) runs, while Chris Hesson was second in the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 11 inches.
The 4x100m relay team of Bumgarner, Christian Thomas, Abram Pauley and Johnnie Board placed second with a time of 48.99 seconds.
The 4x800m squad of Kearns, Jacob Lloyd, Mason Hildreth and Isaiah Pauley also earned a runner-up effort with a mark of 9:16.80.
Brodee Howard was second in the 300m hurdles (46.00) and also finished third in the 110m hurdles (17.56). Hildreth was also fourth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:13.16.
Abram Pauley placed fifth in the 100m dash (12.72) and Edwards was fifth in the discus (96-7). Edwards also finished sixth in the 400m dash with a mark of 59.78 seconds.
The Lady Falcons had five top-six efforts, but only one of those ended up as a top-three effort as the 4x100m relay team of MacKenzie Barr, Elizabeth Mullins, Skylar Riffle and Kaleigh Stewart finished second with a time of 56.41 seconds.
Mullins also had a fourth place finish in the 100m dash (13.72) and a sixth place effort in the 200m dash (30.47). Stewart was fifth (13.81) and Riffle was sixth (14.51) in the 100m dash.
