BUFFALO, W.Va. — A good day at the office.
The Wahama wrestling team had half of its 10 grapplers go unbeaten while earning fifth place at the 2016 Buffalo Barn Brawl held Saturday at Buffalo High School in Putnam County.
The White Falcons had nine grapplers finish with winning individual records while landing a 4-1 overall mark for fifth place as a squad.
Winfield won the 14-team event, while Liberty Raleigh, Buffalo and Marion Senior (Va.) also finished ahead of the Red and White.
Clay County, Sissonville, Man, Princeton, Logan, Capital, South Charleston and Poca all respectively finished behind Wahama in the standings.
Overall, WHS ended the weekend with a combined 42-7 record in head-to-head matches — which included a quintet of perfect 5-0 records from Trevor Hunt (126 pounds), Dalton Kearns (132), Peyton Brewer (138), Ethan Herdman (145) and Antonio Serevicz (195).
Trey Peters (120), Brady Powell (160) and Braden Weaver (285) each finished the event with matching 4-1 marks, while Shawn Taylor also went 3-2 overall at 152 pounds.
No Wahama grappler ended the weekend with a losing record as Wes Peters was also 2-2 at 152 pounds.
WHS defeated Clay County 44-30, beat Man 48-12 and knocked off Logan 45-6 before posting a 51-0 win over South Charleston.
Wahama’s only setback came to host Buffalo by a 43-33 margin.
The White Falcons return to action Wednesday when they hold their first home event of the year during a quad match that starts at 6 p.m.
