GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to fly the Gallia County Courthouse flag at half-staff in honor and remembrance of former Gallia Commissioner Shirley Angel.
Angel, 78, of Crown City, passed away June 13 at his residence. He married his wife, Lynn, in 1958. He was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School and was a self-employed excavator. He was a U.S. Marine and attended Providence Baptist Church. Angel was also a member of the Gallipolis Morning Dawn Lodge No. 7 and the Gallipolis Shrine Club.
Angel served as a county commissioner from 1997 to 2005, according to information collected from the Gallia County Board of Elections.
The flag was lowered to half-staff on Thursday and will remain so until sunset Saturday.
