GALLIPOLIS — The French Art Colony’s Riverby Theatre Guild will bring the play, “The Secret Garden,” to the stage March 11-13.
Based on the children’s literature classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett and adapted by Sylvia Ashby, the heart-warming play leads off the theatre group’s 2016 season.
“The Secret Garden,” originally published in 1911, tells the tale of a young girl, Mary Lennox, who, after losing her entire family in India, is sent to live in the mysterious and gloomy Misselthwaite Manor in Yorkshire, England. There, she discovers a secret garden and its accompanying tragic tale. With the help of her cousin, a gardener and others, she solves a mystery and brings life to Misselthwaite Manor, its gardens and those who call it home.
The production, cast with 10 local actors and directed by Joseph Wright, will perform at 7 p.m. March 11, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 12, and 2 p.m. March 13 at Bossard Memorial Library’s Riverside Room. Tickets are available for advance reservations by calling the French Art Colony at 740-446-3834. Admission may be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to show time; $10 for adults and $5 for students.
