GALLIA COUNTY — Gallia County unofficial Election Day cumulative results are in with absentee and mail in ballots counted.
For Gallia Commissioner, democrat Randy Adkins had 3440 votes against incumbent and republican Harold Montgomery with 6044 votes. Incumbent Larry Betz ran for Gallia Auditor with no challengers.
For Ohio Governor and Lieutenant Governor: Richard Cordary and Betty Sutton of the democrats had 2648 votes in Gallia, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted of the republicans had 6708, Constance Gadell-Newton and Brett R. Joseph of the Green Party had 72 and Travis M. Irvine and J. Todd Grayson of the libertarians had 125.
For Attorney General: Steve Dettelbach, democrat had 2476 votes; Dave Yost, republican, had 6891. For Auditor of State: Robert Coogan, libertarian, had 276; Keith Faber, republican had 6533; and Zack Space, democrat, had 2512. For Secretary of State: Frank LaRose, republican, had 6596; Kathleen Clyde, democrat, had 2533; and Dustin Nanna, libertarian, had 175.
For Treasurer of State: Rob Richardson, democrat, had 2568 votes; Robert Sprague, republican, had 6756 votes. For U.S. Senate: Jim Renacci, republican, had 6173 votes; and Incumbent Sherrod Brown, democrat, had 3288 votes. For U.S. House of Representatives, Sixth District of Ohio: Shawna Roberts, democrat, had 2347 votes; Incumbent Bill Johnson, republican, had 7144 votes.
For State Senator of the 17th district: Scott Dailey, democrat, received 2578 votes; and Incumbent Bob Peterson, republican, had 6728 votes.
For State Representative of the 93rd district: Samantha Thomas-Bush, democrat, 1883; and Incumbent Ryan Smith, republican, had 7678.
For Justice of Ohio’s Supreme Court: Craig Baldwin had 3345 votes and Michael Donnelly had 4168. Mary DeGenaro had 3614 and Melody Stewart 3906.
Ohio’s Fourth District Court of Appeals: Incumbent Marie Hoover had 2472 and Jason Smith had 5236 for the Feb. 9, 2019 term. Valarie Gerlach had 2466 votes and Mike Hess had 5325 for the Feb. 10, 2019 term.
County voters also decided the fate of potential constitutional changes to be made to Ohio’s Constitution. Ballot language was as follows: “Issue 1, Proposed Constitutional Amendment Proposed by Initiative Petition To add a new Section 12 to Article XV of the Constitution of the State of Ohio, A majority yes vote is necessary for the amendment to pass.” The issue was voted down in Gallia with no votes at 8049 to yes votes 1529.
Residents of Gallipolis third precinct were asked to affirm or deny a local liquor option at “Smokin’ Rob’s.” Area voters voted it down with 249 no votes and 203 yes votes.
Residents of Green Township’s fifth precinct were asked to consider a variety of alcohol issues as well.
The first asked,”Shall the sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages be permitted by Par Mar Oil Co Inc. DBA Par Mar Store 44, an applicant for a D-1 and D-2 liquor permits, who is engaged in the business of operating a neighborhood convenience store at 2943 SR 141, Green Twp, Gallipolis Ohio 45631 in this precinct?” Residents approved the measure with 305 yes votes and 281 no votes.
The second asked,”Shall the sale of beer be permitted for sale on Sunday between the hours of eleven a.m., and midnight by Par Mar Oil Co Inc DBA Par Mar Store 44, an applicant for a D-1 liquor permit, who is engaged in the business of operating a neighborhood convenience store at 2943 SR 141, Green Twn, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 in this precinct?” Residents voted the measure down with 317 no votes and 269 yes votes.
