GALLIPOLIS —Gallia County knows how to honor its military veterans, past and present.
The annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony in Gallipolis City Park will take place Nov. 11. It is organized by the Gallia County Veterans Service Commission.
All veterans, veteran service groups and community organizations are encouraged to participate.
The Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, according to John Thomas, service officer and executive director of the Gallia County Veterans Service Office, is to honor military veterans and demonstrate community support for their service and sacrifice.
The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. and will proceed along 2nd Avenue and end at Gallipolis City Park, with the ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.
There Dan Faulkner, who holds the office of state surgeon for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Ohio, will be the guest speaker.
Faulkner joined the VFW in 1991 after returning from Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, and became a life member in 1996.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 2003, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. During his career he served a variety of assignments that include combat aircrew in the E-3A AWACS, and EF-111A, base operations, acquisition, logistics, intelligence and command and staff.
Upon retirement from active duty, Faulkner continued his government service beginning as a division chief in Air Force Material Command.
Faulkner has been married to his wife, Carol, for 35 years and they have two children and two grandchildren.
For folks who wish to participate in the Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11, call the Gallia County Veterans Service Office at 740-446-2005 no later than Nov. 6 to confirm a spot in line.
