THURMAN — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US 35 and on Dixon Run Road that happened on Nov. 26 at 7:26 p.m., resulting in four fatalities and the highway being closed for roughly five hours.
A 1999 Ford Escort driven by Paul Moore, 40, of Thurman, was reportedly traveling north on Dixon Run Road and crossing US 35. A 2015 Honda CRV driven by Samantha Lake, 27, of Dayton, was reportedly traveling west on US 35. A 2015 Kenworth semi driven by Carlton Lowery Jr., 50, of Colonial Heights, Va., was reportedly traveling west on US 35.
According to a report from OSHP, Moore reportedly failed to yield and was struck by Lake in the passenger side and came to rest against a guard rail at US 35 and Dixon Run Road. Lowery was stuck by Lake’s vehicle in the passenger side and both vehicles came to rest in the median of US 35, west of Dixon Run Road.
Moore and two juvenile passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner. Lake was flown to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., with incapacitating injuries and her passenger Matthew Garrison, age and address unreported, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner. Lowery was not injured in the crash.
The Jackson Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Jackson Sheriff’s Office, Bloomfield Township Fire Department, Jackson Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and Jackson County EMS. The crash is still being investigated.
