GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis police officers recovered an inmate from Gallia County Saturday who had previously escaped a Nelsonville SEPTA Correctional Facility Friday.
Jess Flemings, 27, of 2999 Bulaville Pike, was taken into custody after officers found him on Garfield Avenue. Officers received calls of a suspicious person wandering the area. Reportedly, Flemings was in backyards and knocking on doors in the area of White Avenue and Garfield Avenue. Officers located him near the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Portsmouth Road.
According to Gallipolis Police Chief Jeff Boyer, Flemings reportedly gave false information to officers when encountering him. Once officers positively identified him, he stopped communicating. The chief also reported charges of trespassing, obstruction of justice and falsification had been filed against Flemings.
Flemings had previously been convicted of fourth-degree theft of a motor vehicle and sentenced to 48 months of community control. He reportedly violated community control stipulations and was ordered to serve 18 months in a correctional facility.
