Library offers Halloween costume exchange

Staff Report

GALLIPOLIS – With Halloween a little over a month away, Bossard Memorial Library will be helping trick-or-treaters get prepared this year with a Halloween Costume Exchange.

The exchange will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, and the library is currently looking for new or clean, gently used costumes for all ages – toddlers, children, teens, and adults.

Those wishing to participate in the costume exchange can drop off their costumes at Bossard Library in Gallipolis on the following days: Saturday, Sept. 16; Sunday, Sept. 17; Saturday, Sept. 23; Sunday, Sept. 24; Saturday, Sept. 30; and Sunday, Oct. 1. The library is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.

For costumes with props or accessories, the library asks that those items be placed in a large, labeled zip-lock bag attached to the costume. Stand-alone props and accessories are also being accepted, along with sealed and unused makeup or paint.

For each new or clean, gently used costume donated, individuals will receive a costume ticket that can be exchanged for a “new” costume at the exchange. Ticket holders will be offered the chance to exchange their ticket or tickets for costumes from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the library.

Those who do not have a costume to donate can still shop the remaining costumes, props, and accessories from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. However, the library is asking that non-ticket holders bring a non-perishable food item in exchange for each costume. All food items will be donated to a local food bank.

For those individuals who have donated a costume but are unable to find a “new” costume of their liking at the exchange, they may consider freely donating their costume or reclaiming their costume if it has not already been exchanged.

In the event that two ticket holders wish to exchange their tickets for the same costume, preference will be given to the ticket holder with the lowest number on their ticket.

Costumes, props, and accessories not exchanged for tickets as well as collected food items will be donated to a local charity.

In the event that a suitable amount of costume donations are not received, the library may cancel the program. In the event of a cancellation, ticket holders will have one week to reclaim their costumes. After this week, all costumes, props, or accessories will be donated to a local charity.

For those individuals who would like to donate a costume but are unable to drop it off on one of the days listed above, please call (740) 446-7323 and dial extension 229, or email to arrange another time.
