AIB Judges to appear in July

GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis in Bloom will be hosting America in Bloom judges July 13 and 14, a little later than typical, which has given members more time to prepare for the coming contest which has come to dominate the summer season for many.

It is traditional for GIB to show the judges about the city’s landmarks as well as its landscape destinations while also treating them to a reception dinner with GIB’s volunteers and area dignitaries.

According to America in Bloom biographical information, AIB Judge Teresa Woodard is a writer an award-winning gardener as well as a “backyard conservationist.” She is from central Ohio and graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While working seven years at a public relations firm in Columbus, she marketed regional economic development and helped promote restaurant and hotel chain community outreach. Woodard has been considered a Master Garden Volunteer with the Ohio State University Exension and taken home awards for launching a heritage tree program as well as helped arrange a tour focused on conservation of a protected river. While also serving her gardening interests, Woodard has written for The Chicago Tribune, Midwest Living, State-by-State Gardening and Country Gardens. Woodard maintains a 250-acre preserve where she oversees edible garden, perennial beds and prairie strips.

According to AIB Judge Karin Rindal’s biographical information, she has a degree in political science, German and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advances International Studies. She has worked in government as well as manufacturing and spent time in international trade program evaluation and training in total quality management and Malcolm Baldridge Criteria for Performance Excellence.

Rindal joined the New Jersey Master Gardener program in 2004, and was appointed to the board of directors for the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown, N.J. She organized plant sales there and managed volunteer committees. This included overseeing raffles, publicity and print materials. Rindal took home several awards at the New Jersey Home and Garden Show in container design and horticultural entries with the Newport, RI Flower Show.
