GALLIPOLIS — Richard Allen Hurt, II, age 23, of Bidwell, was convicted of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the second-degree, and sentenced Monday to a prison term of seven years by Common Pleas Court Judge Margaret Evans.
“On March 19, 2017, Hurt was a passenger in a vehicle travelling from Cincinnati to Bidwell, Ohio,” said Gallia Prosecutor Jason Holdren. “The vehicle was stopped for a lane violation by Trooper Matthew Atwood of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Hurt was arrested for an active warrant. After being removed from the vehicle, Hurt dropped the narcotics on the ground and began to rub his foot over them so officers would not locate the narcotics.”
Troopers reportedly recovered over 35 grams of heroin from Hurt.
“Due to the alertness and collaborative efforts of our local law enforcement officers, a significant amount of heroin is off the streets and out of our neighborhoods,” said Holdren. “I am pleased with the quick resolution to this matter, and hope that our message of ‘no tolerance’ is becoming clear.”
Officers involved in this arrest were Sgt. Roe, Tpr. Atwood, Tpr. Landrum, Tpr. Finley, and Tpr. Fourspring, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Lt. Davies of the Rio Grande Police Department with K-9 Milla.
