GALLIPOLIS — Local businesses are joining together in order to promote small town pride in Gallipolis.
The Gallia County Chamber of Commerce is working with businesses in order to start a new summer event program called “First Friday,” which will take place the first Friday (hence the name) of May, June, and July.
Erin Buckley, who is involved with River City Leather and the chamber, explained that this event is designed to emulate the popular Gallery Hop in Columbus and the First Friday series in Philadelphia. The idea behind this event is that local businesses will stay open later than normal, host bands or various art displays, and provide food and drinks for attendees.
“We are just trying to make a fun environment for people to come to with their friends,” Buckley said.
Business that are participating will have window decals and lights strung from their storefront to a light pole. The evening attractions last from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., although participants can choose to remain open as long as they choose. According to Buckley, businesses participating are encouraged to be creative with their involvement.
The First Friday will be located on Second Avenue from Court Street to Locust Street.
If parents would like an evening alone for First Friday, French City Academy (300 Third Avenue) is providing child care, preregistration is necessary. For questions regarding child care email FCA at firstname.lastname@example.org or call them at 740-446-4467.
