GALLIPOLIS — Sheriff Matt Champlin has announced that deputies have arrested two individuals who allegedly went on a crime spree across Gallia County.
Sheriff Champlin stated that Lester Thompson of Gallipolis and Brett Curtis of Gallipolis were taken into custody by deputies and troopers from the Gallia-Meigs Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol after receiving a report that several individuals were observed stealing items from Reds Truck Center on Kerr Road. Further investigation determined that the suspects traveled to the Reds Rolling Garage Facility and allegedly stole some other items. Shortly after that, Champlin stated that they attempted to break into a garage in the Porter area and took some items from that residence also. Later that day, the suspects then allegedly entered a used tool shop in Porter and stole a generator and some other tools.
“We are pleased to have recovered the stolen items and were able to return them to their rightful owners,” stated Champlin. “In one of the cases, the owner had not even had a chance to notice that the items had been stolen. Officers were able to identify the items were stolen and we notified the owner, and boy was he shocked. “
Champlin complemented the quick response of officers and tips from the community to solving the four theft offenses within hours of them being notified.
