RIO GRANDE — This week, students from River Valley High School were continuing to prepare for the upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast” at the Berry Fine and Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Rio Grande. The shows will be held Friday and Saturday April 7-8 at 7 p.m.
With spring comes a string a musical productions from local schools, and River Valley is not to be left out. Students from the drama department and music programs are in the midst of dress rehearsals in order to perform their entry in the local theater circuit. Students involved range from grades 9-12, and are not exclusively those in music programs at the school. There will be one performer playing chip that is in kindergarten, and it is the opinion of several people that he will perform well.
According to director Allyson Johnston: “It gives students the opportunity to work on their stage presence, and it helps them develop their teamwork as well.”
Students involved have many reasons for joining in the program, but they all are working together to make the show as good as possible.
One student, Alyssa Sheets, explained why she is involved despite not being a part of the music or drama department.
“I really want to go out of my comfort zone and hopefully grow from this,” she said.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the High School at 740-446-2926, they are $10 for adults, $5 for students.
“Please come and support your local music programs,” Johnston said. “We saw Gallia Academy and Jackson High School last week and we hope the public will come see us as well.”
