GALLIPOLIS — Gallipolis City Schools locked down Washington Elementary and Gallia Academy Middle School Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
According to Police Chief Jeff Boyer, Gallipolis Police Department asked the schools to initiate lockdown protocol as they investigated a report of a potentially suspicious male and gunshot-like sound in the area. No threat was able to be determined, the schools were checked by GPD officers, and local schools continued on a regular schedule.
Reportedly, a individual was seen leaving Spruce Street Extension, said Gallipolis City Schools Security and Transportation Director Troy Johnson.
In addition, after being notified by the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office of the situation in Gallipolis, Gallia County Local Schools were locked down as well for a brief period of time as a precautionary measure, but later resumed normal operating procedures.
