GALLIPOLIS — Bossard Memorial Library welcomed over 900 attendees to the library this past weekend for its Create-a-Critter Workshop, a program held for children ages three to 10 and their families.
“The board and staff of Bossard Library strive to provide those in our community with unique opportunities close to home,” said Library Director Debbie Saunders. “Through the Create-a-Critter program, our goal was to provide children with a hands-on learning experience similar to Build-a-Bear Workshop™, which is typically found in larger, metropolitan areas.
“While the library’s event is not affiliated with Build-a-Bear Workshop™, the concept is quite similar, as participants were able to select their critter from a wide variety of choices, have the opportunity to stuff their critter and receive a birth certificate, special carrying case, and library card for their critter,” Saunders said. “After creating their critter, participants were treated to a special Wild About Books story-time, followed by the library’s teddy bear parade, during which children marched to lively music, as they carried their newly-stuffed critter.”
“After seeing the joy in the faces of these children and the memories made by so many families at the library this past weekend, I can say that this program was one of my favorite programs that we’ve offered here at Bossard Library,” said Saunders. Saunders added that many children registered for their own library card during their visit to the library as well.
