GALLIPOLIS — On Friday at approximately 1:50 p.m., the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after responding to a burglary report at a residence on Bulaville Pike after the caller returned home from work to find that their residence had been broken into and property had been stolen.

According to Gallia Sheriff Matt Champlin, investigators processed the scene and collected evidence along with information regarding a suspect vehicle, from the scene of the crime.

At approximately 5:39 p.m., the same day, a deputy on patrol located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on that vehicle in Springfield Township for a traffic violation. As a result of the traffic stop and the investigation that followed, James Brace Jr., 42, of Racine, was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Gallia County Jail. Investigators will be conferring with Prosecuting Attorney Jason Holdren’s office regarding charges on Brace.

“I am proud of my officers for their diligence and attention to detail which provided a quick resolution to this crime” said Champlin. “This crime is believed to be motivated by drug addiction and therefore I would like to share this message to individuals with an addiction problem. It’s time to seek help. We would like to see you get help, but when you allow yourself to victimize the good people of Gallia County to feed your addiction, we will have no tolerance for your actions. We will lock you up and prosecute you to protect the citizens who work hard every day and want to enjoy what they’ve earned and live comfortably here in our great county.”
