Historic preservation

Jeremy Blauser, of Marion, Ohio, works Monday afternoon on “tuckpointing” the exterior brick on the historic Our House Tavern on First Avenue. Tuckpointing refers to the process of repairing mortar joints in stone or brick masonry walls by grinding or raking out the old mortar to a certain depth, and then filling in with new mortar. Blauser works with Quality Masonry Co., of Marion, which specializes in working on historic structures. The company plans to spend about one month working on Our House Tavern performing a variety of minor restoration work.
